A message from Dr Deidre Gordon
I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my site and that it has encouraged you to start the process of trying to find out who is the REAL you. I hope it has enabled you to start thinking about who is in charge of pulling your strings. On this page I will give you a little more information about my life and experience so you can appreciate where I have come from.
I was born in Manchester UK in 1936 which was three years before the start of world war2.
from the age of 3-9 for me we were at war and I suffered from nightly disturbance as we slept in the cellar for security from the German bombs, which caused enormous damage and destruction to our area.
My Father was a scientist and was too old to fight, but every night was out in the raids and we worried about his return. Rationing of food was strict so no sweets, coke, or hamburgers for us children!
Having experienced such a trauma I am very aware of the impact it had on us children and me in particular.
I was the fourth child out of a family of five. I have three older brothers and a younger sister, which is where my interest in sibling relationships arose.
There were many issues between myself and my brothers in particular, but also with my younger sister that I have had to address.
I was at boarding school from 9-17 so again experienced an institutional life and early separation from home.
As it was the norm at that time in my lifestyle, I did not think it strange. I was aware of the envy from those not fortunate enough to be able to afford such schooling.
In my adult life I have taught 12-18 year old students Mathematics, Economics and Music for the first half of my working life. Then I switched careers and trained as a marital therapist for Relate, the Marriage Guidance Organisation. Later I passed my Masters in Psychoanalytical studies and my PhD in Psychotherapy.
My specialist field of study was the influence of sibling relationships on future adult relationships. I have been working as a therapist for more than twenty years.
I still maintain a private practice as a psychotherapist, but I am interested in doing further research. I am particularly looking for couples in long-term relationships who might be interested in completing simple questionnaires about their feelings towards themselves and their partners to add to our information base. These are always totally confidential.
If you would like more details of this opportunity to help with research and possibly get some feedback for yourself about your relationship please email me at: ed.gordon@tesco.net and I can give you more details.
I live in East Anglia about 60 miles North East of London where our famous artist John Constable painted not too long ago.
